A safe space for growth and healing.
Providing counselling services for children & adults in Tasmania and online.
My approach
Helen’s approach to counselling is centred on creating a calm, safe space where people can explore their experiences openly and with support. She works with clients to understand their emotions, recognise patterns and develop practical strategies that help in everyday life. Her practice is guided by person-centred and trauma-informed principles, and she adapts each session using a range of evidence-based therapies and creative methods, including Sand Tray Therapy. Helen’s aim is to meet each person where they are and support change that feels steady and meaningful.
Helen Wilson
Hello, my name is Helen. I am a PACFA-registered clinical counsellor and Sandtray Therapist. My work is grounded in building strong, positive therapeutic relationships where trust, safety and understanding guide each step of the process. I draw on a psychodynamic, humanistic and person-centred framework, supporting individuals to explore their experiences at a pace that feels comfortable and respectful.
I have extensive experience working with children, young people, adults and families. My background includes roles as a child and family counsellor, a therapeutic specialist in family violence and trauma, a school counsellor and many years in private practice. Before becoming a counsellor, I worked as a teacher, teacher-librarian and school principal, which has deeply shaped my understanding of learning, development and family systems.
In recent years, I have returned to working with adults through an employment assistance program and within my private practice, which I greatly enjoy. I am also expanding my therapeutic offerings to include Sandtray Therapy and, in the near future, Therapeutic Life Story Work. My intention is always to provide a safe, caring and meaningful space where people can explore their concerns, deepen their understanding and move toward healing and growth.
“It is in playing and only in playing that the individual child or adult is able to be creative and to use the whole personality, and it is only in being creative that the individual discovers the self.”
— Donald Woods Winnicott
